UK COVID vaccination modelling was dependent on a single Pythonista
The UKHSA Comptroller complained that they could not audit or stand over QA practices on the model: “One of the reasons given was that the main model was coded in […] Python and that they had to stop using it because the staff member that knew Python had left.” Now they’re using a backup model written in Excel.
